Completed Airbus Tutorial Flight

Completed Airbus Tutorial Flight

I finally finished the tutorial flight for the Aerosoft Airbus (AAX). I was having trouble saving flights in progress but finally worked out the steps:
  1. Switch to windowed mode
  2. Use ; to save the flight
  3. Use the right MCDU to save user state. A dialog will pop up. Press OK.
  4. Exit the flight (ESC)
To restore the flight:
  1. Load the saved flight via Free Flight screen
  2. Use the right MCDU to load user state
  3. Switch back to full screen mode
For some of the camera views in the screen shots are done using FSRecorder, which has some really nice camera features. You can easily create a Tower or Spot View camera and "fly" around the airplane by moving the eyepoint, or at least in some cases by using the Num keypad. I use this in combination with Mouse panning and its like walking or flying around the airplane with a camera. This is a good alternative to EzDoc since I use OpusFSX for my VC cameras with its DHM effects.

I actually messed up the approach and had to go around. The mistake I made was to put Frankfurt VOR FFM into VOR1 instead of VOR2. The result is that the ILS OEZ was not autotuned and by the time I cleared VOR1 in the FMC I had missed the glideslope. To go around I moved the throttle to TO/GA and retracted flaps, then returned to CLB thrust and entered a heading of 340. Then I entered waypoint WW673 from the STAR into the FMC and pressed DIR. This allowed the airplane to fly back to the start of the approach. With the ILS autotuned this time I was able to capture the LOC and GS and allowed the airplane to autoland. At the Retard callout, move throttle to Idle and then engage reverse thrust. I didnt have LOWW taxi charts handy so just used the GSX Followme to get to a gate and deboard.

Loading up at Frankfurt (EDDF)

Wheel chocks and ground power

Enroute to Vienna

Nice weather

Interesting STAR on the ND

Short Final

Deboarding at Vienna (LOWW)

Next flight Ill try to do all the checklists myself instead of using the Copilot, then Ill start flying with ATC and traffic.

Theres also an enhanced soundpack that came with the software and some replacement voice packs I want to try:

  • BRITISH ENGLISH CAPTAIN VOICE PACK
  • Replacement GROUND CREW for Airbus X Extended
  • Airbus A320/321 Extended Captain Voice Pack English
